A restaurant chain has locations in New York, London, and Tokyo. They want ONE QR code on their global menu that sends each customer to their local ordering page. Without Smart Rules, they'd need three different QR codes.
With Smart Rules, that single QR code automatically detects where you're scanning from and sends New Yorkers to the US site, Londoners to the UK site, and Tokyo customers to the Japanese site. No user selection needed. No wrong destinations.
| Challenge | Without Smart Rules | With Smart Rules |
|---|---|---|
| App download links | Print 2 codes (iOS + Android) | One code auto-detects device |
| Multi-country campaigns | Different codes per country | One code routes by location |
| Time-based promotions | Manually swap URL each day | Auto-switch based on time/day |
| Language localization | Hope users find their language | Auto-redirect by browser language |
You can create rules based on six different conditions:
| Condition | What It Detects | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Day of Week | Monday, Tuesday, etc. | Weekly specials, weekend offers |
| Country | Visitor's country | Regional pricing, local content |
| Time of Day | Visitor's local time | Happy hour, morning vs evening menus |
| Date Range | Specific date period | Seasonal campaigns, event promotions |
| Device Type | iOS, Android, Desktop | App store redirects |
| Language | Browser language setting | Multilingual content |
| Business | Rule Setup | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile App | Device = iOS → App Store, Device = Android → Play Store | Users get correct store instantly |
| Global Brand | Country = Germany → de.site.com, Country = France → fr.site.com | Localized experience |
| Bar/Restaurant | Day = Friday-Saturday AND Time = 5PM-9PM → happy-hour.html | Automatic happy hour menu |
| E-commerce | Date = Dec 1-25 → christmas-sale.html | Holiday promotion without manual changes |
Each rule can have multiple conditions with two logic options:
Rules are checked in priority order (1 = highest priority). If no rules match, visitors go to your default URL.
Tip
Smart Rules only work with Website URL QR codes. You'll find the Smart Rules section in Step 2 when creating or editing a Website URL QR code.
